Singer-songwriter joins Hall of Fame-bound band during Support YOUR Cause Tour
TEMPE, Ariz., March 29, 2013 — American singer-songwriter Scott Helmer will open for legendary rock band Heart at Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix on April 7, marking a major milestone during his nationwide Support YOUR Cause Tour.
"I've been a huge fan of Heart ever since I was a kid," Helmer said. "To be opening for a band like Heart less than a year after starting my own tour is a dream come true. The invitation came just a few days before my birthday, and I can't think of a better present."
Heart, led by sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson, has produced some of rock's most enduring songs, including "Barracuda," "Crazy on You," "Magic Man," "Alone," and "These Dreams." The band is also set to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame later this year, recognizing a career that has spanned decades and influenced generations of musicians.
For Helmer, the opportunity represents another significant step during his Support YOUR Cause Tour, a nationwide effort combining live music with fundraising performances for nonprofit organizations and community causes across the United States.
The performance also comes ahead of the release of Helmer's debut EP, Wake Me When It's Over, scheduled for May 28. Written with his brother, Rich Helmer, the project was recorded at Waterfront Studios in Hudson, New York, with producer Henry Hirsch, whose credits include work with Lenny Kravitz, Madonna and Mick Jagger.
Helmer launched the Support YOUR Cause Tour in 2012 after rebuilding his life through music. The tour features solo acoustic performances while helping nonprofit organizations raise funds for their missions through benefit concerts across the country.
Opening for Heart marks one of the tour's biggest opportunities to date and reflects the growing momentum behind Helmer's music and national touring schedule.
