Scott Helmer Brings Live Music to Mattel Children's Hospital UCLA with Musicians On Call
Singer-songwriter partners with Musicians On Call to perform for children spending the holidays in the hospital
TEMPE, Ariz., January 15, 2013 — American singer-songwriter Scott Helmer brought live music to patients at Mattel Children's Hospital UCLA as part of his 24 Nights good-cause performance marathon, partnering with Musicians On Call to perform for children spending the holiday season in the hospital.
The 24-night tour spans nine states and more than 3,000 miles, featuring performances at venues across the country while supporting community fundraising efforts. Along the way, Helmer also donates his time to perform in hospitals, sharing live music with patients unable to celebrate the holidays at home.
"What a lonely time for folks stuck in a hospital over the holiday season," said Helmer. "My heart really goes out to them, so I wanted to do what I could to cheer them up."
For his first appearance with Musicians On Call, Helmer was paired with longtime volunteer musician Kenli Mattus. Together, they visited patient rooms throughout the hospital, performing songs for children and their families.
"Walking the halls and playing for those kids in their rooms—it's something I will never forget," Helmer said. "I can't wait to work with Musicians On Call again. I encourage all musicians to get involved with a program like this. It will feed your soul and your music."
The hospital visit was one of many stops during Helmer's 24 Nights tour, which combined live performances with community service and charitable outreach throughout the holiday season.
