Scott Helmer Releases Debut Single “Time To Say Goodbye”
First single from the forthcoming Wake Me When It's Over EP marks the beginning of a new chapter for American singer-songwriter Scott Helmer
TEMPE, Ariz. — January 1, 2013 — American singer-songwriter Scott Helmer today released "Time To Say Goodbye," the debut single from his forthcoming EP, Wake Me When It's Over. Written by Scott Helmer and Rich Helmer, and recorded at Waterfront Studios in Hudson, New York, the song marks the first official release of a new recording chapter for the brothers following their return to songwriting.
The project began with a simple goal: write songs strong enough to earn the attention of the one producer they wanted to work with.
Longtime admirers of Henry Hirsch's work with artists including Lenny Kravitz, Scott and Rich reached out to the multi-platinum producer after deciding to begin writing together again. Early songs showed promise, but none convinced Hirsch they had found the right record.
That changed one morning in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Working from a guitar idea Rich had recorded and sent by voice memo, Scott spent the morning writing lyrics and developing the melody over coffee before taking a ride on his Harley-Davidson to think through the story and strengthen the chorus. Later that day, the demo was emailed to Hirsch in New York.
His reply was simple.
"We got one."
The message became the turning point.
For the first time, everyone involved believed they had found the song that would anchor the project. It ultimately led to recording sessions at Waterfront Studios, a renowned recording facility housed inside a restored 19th-century church in Hudson, New York.
Arriving from Arizona in the middle of winter, Scott and Rich stepped into the candlelit studio knowing they were about to experience something few independent musicians ever have the opportunity to do. What began as a collection of song ideas quickly became the foundation for Wake Me When It's Over.
"The moment you walk through the doors, you realize you're somewhere special," said Scott Helmer. "Everything about the place makes you want to do your very best work. Once the excitement settled down, it was time to focus on making the best record we possibly could."
During the sessions, Hirsch challenged Scott in an unexpected way.
Although the brothers had originally planned to find another lead vocalist for the project, Hirsch believed Scott's voice best served the songs and encouraged him to step into the role himself.
"Henry believed in me before I fully believed in myself," Helmer said. "He kept pushing me to sing until I found performances I didn't know I had in me. That gift changed my life."
Inspired by the end of a relationship that had reached its natural conclusion, Time To Say Goodbye explores the realization that some relationships cannot be repaired, no matter how deeply one person wants to save them. Rich Helmer composed the music while Scott Helmer wrote the lyrics and vocal melody, a creative partnership that continues to define the brothers' songwriting.
Released through Scott Helmer Records, "Time To Say Goodbye" serves as the lead single from Wake Me When It's Over, introducing listeners to a collection of songs rooted in real-life experiences, memorable melodies, and honest storytelling.

Lyrics by Scott Helmer
I always had a hard time
Seein' the signs
But I got better
Reading between your lines
Now you found yourself lost
On life's lonely highway
The one that stole your heart
Has turned to stone
All you wanna do
Is come back home
You watch me wander in the dark
Over and over again
Looking for the pieces of your broken heart
Over and over again
This did not start with me
You're wasting time can't you see
Don't you think we've reached the end of the line?
It's time to say goodbye
I always had to wonder
Just how this would end
And without a warning
We'd start all over again
Now you found yourself lost
On life's lonely highway
The one that stole your heart
Has turned to stone
All you wanna do
Is come back home
You watch me wander in the dark
Over and over again
Looking for the pieces of your broken heart
Over and over again
This did not start with me
You're wasting time can't you see
Don't you think we've reached the end of the line?
It's time to say goodbye
This did not start with me
You're wasting time can't you see
Don't you think we've reached the end of the line?
It's time to say goodbye
